AI engines tracked

Which AI answer surfaces Seerly monitors, which plan covers which, and why the engine mix matters.

Overview#

Seerly asks your tracked prompts of real AI answer surfaces and reads what comes back. Which surfaces depends on your plan.

Seerly tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overview. The standard plans, compared at seerly.app/pricing, cover combinations of those three, and your own coverage is shown in Settings. Claude and Gemini are available on enterprise arrangements, agreed as part of a custom plan rather than picked from the pricing page.

Why these surfaces matter, and what optimising for them involves, is covered in Generative Engine Optimization.

Interpreting results#

Engines disagree with each other, and that disagreement is the useful part rather than a complication. The same question put to two engines will often produce two quite different sets of recommended brands, because the engines are drawing on different sources to compose their answers. A brand can be well represented on one and effectively invisible on another without anything about the brand itself differing.

The consequence is that a single overall visibility number conceals more than it reveals, so it is worth checking the per-engine breakdown before drawing any conclusion about where you stand.

One distinction catches people out often enough to be worth stating plainly. Google AI Overview is the summary that appears at the top of Google's search results. Gemini is Google's conversational assistant. They come from the same company and they are separate surfaces that can say genuinely different things about you, which is why they are tracked separately here.

The surfaces, and what each one is

EngineWhat it is
ChatGPTA conversational assistant
PerplexityAn answer engine that cites as it answers
Google AI OverviewThe summary above Google's search results
ClaudeA conversational assistant, on enterprise arrangements
GeminiGoogle's conversational assistant, on enterprise arrangements
The highlighted row and the one below it are different surfaces from the same company, and they can say different things about you.

How the engines differ in practice#

The differences are not cosmetic, and they change how you read each column.

Perplexity cites openly as it answers, so its citation data is the richest and the fastest place to see which sources hold your category. Google AI Overview sits on top of Google's index, which makes it the engine most connected to your existing SEO standing: pages that rank tend to be pages it can reach, though reaching is not the same as being chosen. The conversational assistants reward context: what they say about you cold and what they say after a conversation has established your category can differ sharply, which is exactly the difference Primed Prompts exists to measure.

The practical consequence: when one engine is your weak one, diagnose it on its own terms. A Perplexity gap is usually a source gap. An AI Overview gap often traces to crawlability or search standing, which is Smart Audit territory. An assistant gap is frequently about how well the sources describe you in prose that survives being paraphrased.

Best practices#

What you are aiming for is reasonably even coverage across the engines you track. A large gap between two of them is almost always a source problem rather than a brand problem: the engine you are missing from is leaning on sources that do not mention you, and the fix lives on those sources rather than on your positioning.

Next steps#

  • Check per-engine before per-topic. If one engine is dragging your average down, whatever fixes it will be specific to the sources that engine favours.
  • Look at what is being cited on the engine you are missing from. That is the gap worth closing, and it usually involves a different set of sources than the engine where you already do well.
  • If your plan tracks a single engine, choose the one your buyers actually use. The right answer differs by category and by audience, and it deserves a moment's thought rather than accepting whatever the default happens to be.

Limitations#

Seerly reads public answers to its own prompts. It cannot see what any individual person was shown in their own session, and answers vary between runs even when nothing at all has changed.

Additional engines are evaluated as the landscape shifts, and coverage beyond the standard set is arranged as part of a custom plan.
